Get the serial number off of the block then come here and people can tell you what it is. Also try to find out the compression ratio, type of pistons (hyperutechtic, forged, cast), year (one or two piece rear main seal), 2 or 4 bolt mains, has it been bored over or not, how many miles, etc.

My advice is unless you know the person selling the motor, or unless you can actaully fire and run it...is pay no more than a core price for it...and even then you can come out with a loss..i/e say the motor is junk, and you use it for a core, say the standard core charge at your shop is 300 bucks...that assumes a motor that can be machined with no additional work...but say the crank needs to be built up, that's about 60 bucks around here (not to be confused with turning the crank), say there is a scrath in a cylinder that cannot be bored or honed out...that hole needs to be sleeved...take another 20 bucks plus the sleeve cost off of the core charge...

See, buying an unrunning pulled engine is always a risk...unless you can verify why the motor is out and sitting..i/e the guy wrecked the car and is parting it..this is cool...but otherwise, why do you think the motor is just sitting around?
