Piston to valve clearance

Well I will be getting around to checking my piston to valve clearance in the next couple days and it just dawned on me that if I dont have proper clearance I am screwed!!!

Here is the setup:

383 with 5.7 rod and zero decked block.
.041 gasket
KB 12cc dish piston
Comp XR276HR 224/230 .537/.545 with 1.6 roller rockers
E-tec 170 heads with 64 cc chambers 1.94 intkae 1.55 exhaust valves

What do you all think??

if you have a problem with the clearance doesn't mean you're screwed, you correct for it. as a rule you will never have problems untill around .65 lift, with out a gasket, but it's always wise to mock things up and check.

I am familiar with those particular pistons. THey have a DEEP "trench" on the edge of the D-shaped dish. You will likely have NO clearance issues.

Did you do a buildup with these slugs? If so what were the specs of the setup?

Thanks

It's not likely this engine will have a problem, but you should check valve to piston clearance anyways. Sometimes the valve clearance notches aren't exactly in the right spot under the valve.

I just assembled my 360 with .015" deck clearance, .015" head gasket, 4 eyebrow flat tops, extremely shaved big valve 305 heads nd a cam with much more overlap and valve opening at and near TDC and I had just enough.. (.093" at 0 lash) intake valve.
The exhaust didn't even come close the the piston.

Ominous- my setup was a 383 stroker and used heads with 2.02/1.60 valves and a much less aggressive cam than yours. I had MILES of valve-piston clearance.

Just remember that clearance problems happen during OVERLAP between the exhaust and intake strokes when both valves are slightly open, not at max valve lift (when the piston is half way down the bore).

Always best to check with some clay and mocking up the assembly temporarily, but I'd be REAL surprised if you have clearance problems.
