Oil Filter Problem
Oil Filter Problem
Yep that's my oil filter. I have tried and tried to get that off but I can't find anything to move it. Someone asked me "can you bend it enough to get at the 2 bolts to remove the adapter off the block? remove it and then remove what's left of the oil filter." Does anyone know what bolts are being mentioned and where they are located?
Thanks in advance for your help -William Senior Member

There are two bolts that hold the by-pass and the threaded shank to the mount. If you can bend it enough that would work to get it off. If not, and being very careful, you could try to use a chisel and a hammer to back it off.
I did not put this filter on. The dumba$$ that rebuilt my engine put that one on. I always use fram, always oil the gasket, and turn it 1/4 of a turn after the gasket contacts the block. If I put it on, I wouldn't have a problem right now.
you could put a punch into one of the 5 oil flow holes there and tap on it with a hammer until it comes out. but i'm sure you thought of that.

Yes, I have already thought about that, and it still did not work.
That quote came right from the website you just mentioned.

no, fram filters are garbage. I had one on my truck and the anti-drainback valve in the filter was useless. With the remote oil filter the bottom end would clunk and knock on startup because of lack of oil. In addition to that they have far less filtering media then other filters. Youll do yourself a favor by switching over to another brand like ac-delco or a premium brand like that offered by mobile under their mobile one brand.
As for the filter, im not sure how thick the base plate is on that filter but you could thread some bolts onto two opposite holes adn use a large wrench to grip the two bolts. Hopefully, this might give enough leverage to get it moving.

camaropowerZ28 - Can U use a flashlight and look thru the 5 holes on the filter and locate the two little bolts that hold on by-pass? U should be able to see 'em and maybe drill a hole to get to the bolts.
That statement is just plain stupid. Yes, we know that Fram has a higher percentage of failure, but there are plenty of engines out there that have had Fram oil filters and survived a long time.
There are engines that have had other oil filters besides Fram and needed a rebuild.
Personally I would never run a Fram because of the poor construction and the higher rate of failure with 'em.

you think its a coincidense that you always use fram oil filters, and you had to have your engine rebuilt?
