What is the best brand out there that will not make you loss any amp power?? And how much should I spend on a set? Is a 2 or 3 peice better?

IMHO their all junk, charging problems, especially in traffic, and cooling problems in the hotter summer months.. any gains from pulleys is so minute their about pointless, youll notice a better gain from a thourough tuneup.. most dyno sheets show pulleys to only be good for 1-4 hp..

get a march 2 piece pulley set,, its cheap and its a mod that adds up with other little mods. if your that worried about charging get the power and amp set.

the power and amp set underdrives your crank and gives you a larger alternator pulley.. making any gain even less.. i tried a 3 peice set and was very upset with my purchase, i managed to sell them for close to what i paid tho.. i dont remember where i saw the dyno sheet for power pulleys, but im sure you could find it if you searched...

Let me add a little mechanical knowledge to this thread. First off, if you underdrive your crank pulley (got to a smaller diameter) then you need to underdrive (go to a smaller diameter) your alt pulley as well to keep your charging capabilities as designed. If you just get the underdrive crank pulley your crank/alt pulley ratio just went down, which means your alt needs more rpms to fully charge. If you get both underdriven and the sizes remain relative to each other, you will maintain your crank/alt pulley ratio. I believe the reason some of you are quick to say they are junk is because you got an inferrior pulley set. scoob800, you mentioned you got a smaller crank and larger alt pulley, your ratio went from good to real bad (I don't know the ratio for serpentine setups, but I can double check multi-belt systems). What you should get is a smaller crank and alt pulley, then you wouldn't have charging problems. Hope this brings some much needed light on the subject.

I dont think you will get 15 h.p. from changing your pulleys......IMHO they are not worth the hassle. Maybe 4-5 h.p. tops.

I have heard 2 tenths in the 1/4 from pulleys, but also that you can't feel any SOTP increase. I have the March 2 piece crank/alt set, and only have the alt on right now. So who knows, I guess every little bit helps.

hey here is some cold hard facts. that 15hp that i said my bud prob gained was from the combined mods of the pulleys and electric fan conversion. These changes made a NOTICABLE change, not just a seat of the pants. an d engine fan on the dyno for our race motor was worth 8 hp when we took it off...

I don't know about Camaros, but I remember reading on MustangWorld or SN-95.com they gained close to 15hp on a 96-98 GT with March power pulleys.

Since we're talking about under drive pullies, I think there's a set on my car. MAC is stamped on my crank pulley. Don't know if that's OEM or MAC brand. (do they even make pulleys for Camaros?)

garmer, got a k&n air filter yet? if not, theres a good first mod.. in most cases you will notice a gain.. one of the best gain/price mods, if you even wanna call it a mod, it really isnt.. if you really wanna lower your reciprocating mass (ie pulleys, faster engine acceleration), go for an alluminum driveshaft, tho they arnt cheap..

scoob look at my sig to see what I have done so far!! When I did my K&N, I also took off this stupid side route piece, I could really tell the difference, and you could hear and see the filter sucking in the air!!

GB, yes it is a MAC pulley, they have pulleys for 86'-'92 TPI. Go to MAC's website and see for yourself.

That also explains when idling it gets about 12.5-13 volts vs the 13.5 it should have. For those who are wondering my car runs fine. No dead battery here. knock on wood
