what size rims/tires can i out on my car?

i will be coming into a rather large amount of money in a couple months. with the engine swap outa the way, i was thinkin about replacing the butt-ugly tires/rims i have on my car now. i have an 86 camaro cpe(the kind with no g/fx). i tried some 16*8's 4th gen rims, but they didnt fit. so what will? and what size tires too??

The 4th gen rims have different offsets than our cars, that's why they didn't fit.

I've seen a thirdgen Z with ROH wheels 17x9.5 rear and 17x8.5 front, that looked great. Picked up the wheels new for about $900.00

Daniel,
I have 17x8's up front and 17x11's in the rear.
Thats with 235/45's on the front and 315/35's on the rear.
You could go as big as 9.5" rim up front with a 275/40/17 tire with the right offset. Not sure if a 285/40 would fit.....possibly.
I paid $895 for my set from Centerline.
