here's a hint - check the ECM fuse !
If your engine suddenly turns into a pig (like mine did this morning half way to work )and it feels like a 3 cyl with the the cylinders full of molasses and the brakes are on - check the codes when the check engine light stays on fully.
I drove it home to get out of my suit, ripped off the air cleaner and started looking for loose wires or vacuum leaks - was the choke stuck on - hmmmm - better check the codes - jumpered the connector and turned it to "ON". Nothing ??? Sh*t, my ECM has died !!!
Nope, a 10c fuse - the ECM fuse was fried so I was limping along with no ECM - no advance, no mixture control and man - what a DOG !!!
Now, as for why the fuse fried - I wait a while
ciao

When i got my 83 GP i didn't even have an ECM fuse. I ripped the entire dash apart trying to figure out why i couldn't get the codes to come out of it and why the power would go out of it when i opened the door.
Turned out that it only had power when the doors were shut b/c voltage was coming through the light ckt, feeding back through the ground.
Finally figured out which hole was empty and no problems since.
