Black soot thick in the tail pipe.
What is the cause of this. THe mannual says tune up plugs, wires, cap rotor and a coil, any thing else?

If you are talking about an abnormal amount of soot, then you are probably running a little rich, maybe alot. Are you blowing any smoke, what colour is it. black is a good indication of a rich mixture between fuel and air.
get back to us with a few more details
hope this helps you out

Its alot of soot. The exhuast is only 2 months old and you hit the tail pipe and soot will fall out. The car is seeming to be use alot more gas latly also. One other thing is i get a code 34 after driving at highway speeds for about 20 min. EGR maybe?

If you do a lot of low speed/stop&go/short trips then it is completely normal. Soot will naturally build up in these cases. Even if you do a lot of high speed/long trip highway driving, you aren't gonna burn out accumulated soot in any short amount of time.
But since your gas mileage is a little worse then you probably do have some other problem (assuming you're comparing similar driving conditions.) i don't know what a 34 is offhand, but you have to fix that before you can even begin to look at anything else.

Wanna hear a good one? My garage floor has two big black spots from where **** flies out of my tailpipes, but my plugs and my oxygen sensor are so clean that you can still see the original semi-shiny metal with absolutely NO buildup at all.

34 is MAF related I believe. The EGR code is 32. Doesn't this site have a listing? I'm too lazy to check
