Vortec head/intake questions ???
I'm considering getting the vortec heads and intake as it appears to be a more bang for the buck approach to increasing power. The only problem with that is that I must remain emissions legal. I've noticed that the vortec intakes with EGR are made for the TPI type systems. I have the CC Q-Jet carb. As of yet, I can't find any aftermarket intakes for a carb with EGR setup for the Vortec heads. Do any of you guys know of a way to get the vortec system to work with a CC carb while remaining emissions legal ??? Is there an aftermarket intake out there that will work with what I have to do, or should I stick with rehabbing the L98 heads and forget the vortec approach ?? Appreciate any responce or advice you guys have. Thanks !!!

GM has a q-jet Vortec intake w/EGR valve mount. I have no idea how they get exhaust gases to the valve, since the heads don't have the cross-over passage. Perhaps they expect to plumb it from the exhaust manifold.
Regardless, it isn't technically emissions legal, anyway.

Thanks five7kid.....but i'm still at a loss about what the "external egr pipe out of exhaust manifold or header to retain functioning egr valve"....whatever the heck that means !!!! I guess after buying the vortec manifold and heads plus all the other stuff to bolt it in, I'd be better off just to get aftermarket heads that would fit my application that I have now.

You can check EGR connections in Corsica/Celebrity 88-89 cars (from exhaust manifold to intake man.).
