engine losing all power
engine losing all power
this is not for me, nor is it for a third gen (i know i know), but it is a general engine question, and sounds like it could happen to anybody.
a guy that i work with has a 97 ram 2500 van, and the check engine light comes on sometimes, then the engine loses power (like you can step on the pedal and it doesn't do anything), then it'll backfire and start bucking, and then all the sudden everything will be fine. it also only happens when the car warms up. sometimes the check engine light will stay on, but as soon as his wife brought it to the dealer, the light went off. she just called him and said it happened again, and the light is still on.
anyway, i think it sounds like an oxygen sensor going bad. but then again, i don't know much.
any help will be appreciated.
thanks
oh, and if you're going to close this thread, could you at least tell me where i can find more information?

Yeah, you know the forum rules. You know where this is going.
SDince it's a '97, it should be OBDII compliant. Therefroe, there should have been a DTC generated for the stumbling (at least a misfire error, and probably a lot more) It would be a really good idea to scan the PCM for DTCs and freeze-frame data that set the DTC(s). Any guesses beyond that would be mere speculation.
