Cost/mpg/perf involved in carb/tpi/tbi

I'm considering building a motor and I'm having trouble picking an induction setup (carb vs. tpi vs tbi). What would it cost to duplicate the stock tpi setup? If I wanted to get a mini or super ram, how much more would that cost? What kind of gains (throttle response, mpg, hp, rpm ranges) could I realize from the tpi that I couldn't get anywhere else? Is this really a superior setup or is it a Coke/Pepsi thing? I've heard tpi is more expensive, so before I run out to buy parts for it I'd like to be able to justify the cost. This is going to be a street/strip motor, no I don't really have any list of mods yet (this is really preliminary). Perhaps it would help me if someone'd explain under what circumstances each setup would excell in. Thanks in advance,
Homer

tpi doesn't breathe well above 4000 unless you build it up, remember that.. but it gets AWESOME gas mileage.. i get 24mpg @ 70mph with my '87 IROC with 3.23s..
