What could the negative effects of this hose being disconnected be?

I just was looking at my car tonight, checking to see if it was running okay before the Skyline Drive cruise tommorrow when I noticed that one of those hoses that used to go to the EVAP canister had a vacuum. I thought it was just a vent line from the gas tank but I traced it and it goes up to the throttle body. In case you didn't guess, I removed my EVAP canister and just let the hoses hang there. Is it possible that this unmetered air would make my car run poorely? For example pinging? I've been having some serious ping recently and I'm thinking this *might* have something to do with it.

Thanks

Mine comes off the canister frequently when I'm working under the hood (plug wires, etc). When I go and start the car, and it idles like crap, I know exactly why. That hose fell off again. Yes, you must plug it. I suggest taking the curved hose off at the TB and installing a vacuum cap.
