What's your oil pressure?

I've got a '90 Formula with H.O. 305 TBI. The oil pressure seems to be running pretty high. At idle the pressure is about 46-48 and at 2000 RPM it's anywhere from 53 or 54 to pegged (60 PSI). The oil is fresh as well as the filter. What kind of oil pressure do you guys run? Also, my motor tends to run cold. Usually around 170 and never over 190. Is this standard for third gens? I have a suspicion that the gauge could be a little off because the motor seems to be running very strong. I've never seen smoke out the tail pipe and it's always running great. Any advice you guys can give would be great. Thanks.

there is no h.o. tbi 305. the oil pressure your seeing is normal and just fine. as for the temp, it may have an aftermarket chip and lower temp thermostat in it. this is just fine. better in fact.

I have the Chilton's and it's says on a table that the operating pressure for our cars should be 55psi@2000 rpm...hope this helps..your pressure sounds normal. Have you put on thicker oil at the last oil change, that could be it. Hope this helps.

If your oil pressure gauge is pegged often, you probably need a new oil pressure sending unit. Its located just above the oil filter, it looks like a film canister with a wire sticking out of it.

on my 86 305 carbed LG4, my pressure is usually at 30psi. sometimes a little higher when I start it in the morning or when it's cold. Just tonight it went down to about 20 psi after I got off the highway. I was in 4th @ almost 5000 rpms for about 20 seconds, got off the highway and stopped at a light and my pressure was lower than 30psi. It rarely gets lower than 30psi. I thought maybe I sprung an oil leak running the engine so hard, but no oil was coming out and there was no burning oil odor.

My 90 Formula pegs at 60 psi when its cold (always has), at idle warm its around 45. Temp could also be a stuck thermostat. Mine was like that for a couple years til I replaced it.
