A/C i think

The problem is when I turn my ac off, my engine begins to run hot, but when I turn my A/c on even low it begins to cool down? I have a new thermostat in it. could this be a problem with the fan? or maybe the radiator(also failry new: less than 5,000 miles)? any help will be appreciated.

The fan switch may be broken. Some day, park the car and let the engine warm up. The fan should automatically come on at around 220º If the car's temp continues to climb without the fan turning on, i would say the switch is the problem. Because you say it cools down with the A/C on, i would say that the fan motor itself is fine.

When you turn on the A/C it activates the electric fan thereby by-passing the coolant temprature sending switch. Either your sending unit is bad, or the wire is disconnected. The switch is located between the 1 and 3 cylender (just below the exhaust manifold) and should have a one wire attached to it. If you ground the wire your fan should power up.

The sender for the gauge is between #1 and #3 cylinders.

The one for the fan is between #6 and #8 on the pass. side.
