Starting Problems

SUP FELLAS I HAVE THIS PROBLEM WHENEVER I LEAVE MY CAR SITTING FOR A WHILE(FEW HOURS TILL ENGINE GETS COLD) WHEN I TRY TO START IT BACK UP IT THE ENGINE TURNS AND TURNS IT'LL CRANK AND CRANK I TURN THE KEY ALL THE WAY BACK AND THEN BACK ON TILL IT STARTS IT PUTTS PUTTS SHUTS OFF AND THEN WHEN IT FINALLY STAYS ON IT RUNS OK..WHILE IAM CRANKING IT IT TRIES TO START(ENGINE SPEEDS UP). I JUST PUT THIS ENGINE AND I USED THE TPI SETUP FROM THE OLD MOTOR THE OLD MOTOR USED TO DO THE SAME THING THANXS...THIS IS

hey bud, turn down the caps, you're pretty loud. Check your ignition module. That's probably the culprit. Heat failure of the ignition module tends to be a common thing. when the module cools off it will work great, but if it's hot it will not work properly, causing the symptoms you described. I used to think the module was all or none, meaning if it was bad it wouldn't work period, but TomP informed me of the heat problem. If you get it tested, it will probably test good, mainly because the module is cold when you bring it in to be tested, but they are only a $20 or so part, so I would just replace it. Hope that helps.

thanks i will try that i did swap the old distributor from my old car so i might off brought the problem with me will the module make the car run rich? it stinks a lot when its running i dont have the air tube going to the cat..but i will put it back on thanks again

yeah that sounds like it could be your problem, I'm sure you know to give it a good dose of dielectric grease where it makes contact with the distributor, but I think that should have you running good in no time
