zz4 305

I'm just wondering if ANYONE has tried a zz4 roller cam in a 305.. I mean, I KNOW it'll fit, and work mechanically, but would it be a tiny bit too radical for a 305 ?? has ANYONE had problems with that set-up ?? (the block has been bored .030 over, WITH performance flat-top pistons, ported heads... all that yummy stuff.... in case you need the numbers on the cam... duration @ .50 is 208/221, and lift is .474/.510 with 112 lobe seperation ..
thanks guys

If you have steep rear gears, like 3.42 or higher, and a stick, and your heads have had the valve guides, etc., clearanced for lift that high then you might get away with it. That IS a lot of cam for a 305, however. Most folks don't go any higher than a Comp XE 262 on the street, which has lift in the .46x region.

I have a slightly larger cam than that in my 305 (a Comp XR264HR, 212°/218° & .520"/.528" with 1.6 rockers); it passed "enhanced" California emissions inspection like that when I lived out there. So I doubt the ZZ4 would be "too much".

Make sure you have good valve springs (NOT stock - I'd recommend Comp 981, or the equivalent from Lunati, Crane, Ultradyne, etc., not GM or K-Motion) along with the retainers and keepers that go with them.

I ran that cam in my 305 TBI, with world SR torquer heads and edelbrock intake. If you have TBI it will have to be tuned. Before I started burning chips for it the gas mileage was horrible, but it was drivable. If you have TPI I don't think it will need to be tuned all that bad. Their is a guy running the ZZ4 cam with a TPI 305 running mid 13s on the stock chip.

well, I have a tbi, DONT WORRY, it has ultimate mods, 1/4 injector spacer, 55 lb injectors, edelbrock performer manifold, major ported heads WITH .600 lift springs, I know I will need a custom chip, .. ANY suggestions, I was leaning towards a guy named BRIAN, he does custom chips for tbi cars from a website called tbichips.com , unless you have an old one, or could make one for me, since you already had that setup in you car
