can't get it running again? wtf!?

O.K. here's my problem... My engine is turning over but not firing, I've got a good spark and I know I'm getting fuel. Every once in a while I'll get a little backfire through the carb but it won't start, the car was running about a month or so ago, and I havent touched it since then. The motor is a 305 with a holley 600 1850 and a vac. advance distributor. I thought it might be 180 off or something so I turned the thing 180 the other way and now makes farting sounds, lol... can any of you help me?

i've been thinking, could my fuel not be atomizing correctly due to blockage? I rebuilt the carb about 5 months ago and maybe its clogged from old fuel and debris... i did run it w/o a filter a few times *DOH*... or maybe my timing chain is off/stretched but it doesn't sound like it

if your defanately getting fuel and spark then check the carb.. idont know much about carbs but arent there a couple of screws hat change fuel and air mixtres? you say you rebuilt it right? well try that, put in a new fuel filter if it isnt new already and reset the distributer ( crank engine to tbc, and face rotor twards #1 cylinder)
