I have done a search and can't come up with anything as for installing these things. I tried to put the first end in the groove and spinning it but it seems to always fall out. Help!

I called the piston manufacturer and found out that you have to pull the locks apart about half an inch. I didn't know it was a good thing to bend them up.

Correct! You have to stretch them out end-to-end so they are about 1" tall or so. Then "spiraling" them in with a small screwdriver is real easy.

Freaked me out the first time I did it, too!
