ok so i changed my steering column the other day jus have a question

the car is my 84 Z auto
on the column ignition switch there is a cable that goes to it
i used the column from an 86 SC 5 speed and the switch had no cable to it. HOW important is that cable? ie: what does it do?

 

That is the switch that keeps the key from coming out with the car when it's not in park.

I think it also keeps the car from coming out of park.
Have you driven the car with the new column in the car?

 

yea ive driven it
it doesnt act any different except that i used a straight column instead of a tilt like it HAD in it
even with the old column i could pull the car out of park without the key in it and i could pull out the key with it in drive so i dont know

 

Maybe that cable was disconnected from the shifter before you got it.

 

thats very possible since the column in my camaro was from a firebird
anyway its acting ok

so im not TOO worried about it
