MSD box
Alright, I feel pretty dumb, but do our cars, non HEI use a magnetic pickup? I just got the MSD 6A, and a Blaster SS coil (since my stock coil was near death), and new plug wires. I found what looked close to my setup in the "instruction manual" for the system, and connected it accordingly. The only thing I did not do (which I will try tomorrow morning) is connect the red wire to both the distributer, and the key. I checked, I get no spark out of the coil while cranking. I have what I believe to be the stock distributer. 2 connectors on it. One with 2 wires, pink and white, and another 4 wire cable. (I don't remember the colors) It had the dual coil in it before. If anyone can give me detailed instructions on the proper wiring of this thing (especially before tomorrow 10:00 am when I have to go to college) it'd be great!

Corry, I don't get the '...our cars, non HEI...) All our cars (3rd gen) are HEI ignitions. You didn't state which year car you have, so I am going to pop a guess. I think you have the dual connector external coil (2 coils ? you meant connectors right?) There are two pink wires, one on each side of the coil connectors. We are going to cut all the wires and wire to a 2 terminal coil. The pink wire on the right side (harness plugs facing you - this is all IIRC, so double check from where I say they come from) is the wire from the ignition switch. The pink on the other side is from the distributor. Wire both of these together to the red bundle wire of the MSD box. Next, cut the white wire on the left side. This is the one that comes from the distributor. This goes to the white wire in the MSD box bundle. Orange goes to POS coil term, black to NEG coil term. Stiff black goes to the block for ground. Stiff red, I usually put on the starter sol. pos stud. The last white wire is the stock tach wire. I haven't done this using a two terminal on an external HEI coil, so I'm unsure if this connects to the TACH output, or to the white wire on the MSD box. I think it goes to the white wire of the MSD box, but again, I am unsure. Hope that helps.

This is the small price they have to pay to have the prestige of having a gear-head in the neighborhood!Anyway, let me know what you do with that white wire for the tach. I'd like to know if I hit it or not.

Thanks! Runs almost great now! I haven't gotten around to changing the wires yet, so I decided to check and see how bad they were. Sure enough, I got one leaking bad...arcing right onto the headers! Even with that though, it seems to have a little more power than it did on the dieing coil. It lit 'em up at the top end of 2nd gear out on a little rural road
(it really was an accident, just checking for missing throughout the rpm range, and I heard a loud squeal! Honest! (At least thats what I would've told the cops if they had pulled me over
Thanks again for I.D.ing that last pink wire. I believe the white one on the coil with the switch wire is the tach signal...will try that tomorrow
