Another EGR question

I too am eliminating my EGR and I had a question about the hoses going to the egr selonoid. Why are there 2 hoses coming from the selonoid and going into the wire harness and then through the firewall and into the interior? Do they connect to some type of pressure activated switch under the dash and then wired in to the ecm? I just wanted to know if I can pull them thru the fire wall and tie them up and out of the way without affecting anything. Oh yeah, mine is an 88 TPI..

Mike,

That doesn't sound right at all. Check the vacuum hose routing on the VECI label under the hood, and make sure the EGR solenoid is connected as the diagram indicates. As far as I can determine, there should be no vacuum hose from the EGR solenoid into the interior. There might be a common connection on the solenoid supply line, since both the solenoid and the HVAC controls get full manifold vacuum, but this should only be one hose, not two.

I do know that if you disconnect the EGR solenoid electrical connector, you'll probably set a DTC since the ECM will be looking for some electrical load from the solenoid. I also suspect that you have a temperature diagnostic sensor on the EGR base. If the ECM does not see a change in this input when the EGR solenoid is turned on, you might also set a DTC.

You'll have to devise a way around this - a custom PROM perhaps, or a relay operated by the solenoid output which applies a varied voltage signal to the ECM sensor input when energized. Good luck.

Yup, you were right Vader. I should have gone back and looked in the engine bay before I posted. I did in fact label 1 of the 2 hoses. The labeled one was a hose going to the top of the little heater valve thing next the upper strut mount. The other is definately the one that goes to the egr selonoid. I am still just wondering why they run back thru the firewall tho. Reason I need to know is because they are very brittle and cracked in a few places and I want to replace them. I would look on the inside, but they are buried behind the dashboard. Oh well, sounds like I am going to end up having to remove the dash anyways. Am I wasting my time eliminating the EGR? It almost sounds like more hassle then its worth, I doubt it robs that much performance anyways.. I had intended to get a custom prom tho. Thanks for the help thus far!
