emissions and error codes

Having trouble passing emissions and getting
a check engine light. The car is a stock
84z28 5.0 L69 with 48k miles.The error code
is "32" and can happen most any time. Also
the choke light flickers off and on with
a muted electric buzzer type noise when it
does.This also occurs randomly.Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

84,

A '32' is a failing atmosheruc pressure sensor (BARO sensor). That's the rectangular black sensor attached to the firewall that apparently isn't connected to anything. It should have had a little foam cube filter on the vent fitting, but that's probably long gone. Check the electrical connector at the sensor. Meter the sensor to make sure the resistance between terminals 'B' and 'C' is not zero. Make sure that a vacuum hose hasn't inadvertently been connected to the vent nipple.

Your CHOKE warning light and alarm may be related to the BARO problem.

Thanks for the response Vader.I will check
the sensor tomorrow,my meters battery is dead.I noticed today that now I am also
getting error codes 41 and 42.Seems like there are many causes for those codes
according to the manual. Are there problems
that are common to cause these new codes?

thanks

84,

Both the '41' and '42' are related to failures of the EST circuit. Your distributor is not getting reference pulses to the ECM (41) and the ECM detects a problem with the HEI (amplifier/switch) module in the distributor (42). You may want to take a close look at the connections at the distributor and ESC module on the firewall.
