Having problems, please help...

The first thing bugging me is my brakes. The pads are about a year old and have plenty of of material left, but every now and then when I apply the braks I hear a metallic squeal like the metal warning tab hitting the rotor. However I check the waring tab and it is far away from the rotor. But I did notice that after only 50 miles after I washed my car the front rims were near black from brake dust. And when ever I start going from a stop my car seems jerk ever so slightly like the brakes are slightly on. And when I took my front rims off and turned the rotor there seemed to be some fricion with the brake pad.
Any suggestions?

Also my voltage gauge drops down to 8 or 9 volts every now and then, and sometimes wavers around 12 when it should be at 14. I took the alternator and the battery to a shop and they both tested out perfectly. So is the gauge messed up or what?

Thanx for bearing through this long post,
Jason

Disc brakes will drag slightly so do not worry bout that. As for the metallic scrapping you here have you looked the rear brakes? My voltage gauge does the same thing on my 84 Z28(16 year lod car but was not driven for 10 years). A lot of peices have rotted or just gotten dirty from lack of use. This particular prob I believe can be traced to a bad ground behind the dash. I am planning on looking into it one of these days and I will post the results.
