Right Hideaway Headlight motor/gearbox will not work properly
This is my first post, and I did not know where to post this question sorry. My right hideaway headlight motor works but the actual headlight won't popup when I press the switch. Sometimes it will come up but the motor will still run after the light pops up. The left one pops up no problem and the motor doesn't run continually after it pops up or goes back down.
...by the way, this is on a '89 firebird formula...
So, I know it's not the motor... could it be the gear box under the headlight?
Thanks in advance for help this is stumping me.

Welcome aboard! Sounds exactly like the problem I had with my drivers side a few weeks ago. You have to rebuild the headlight motor. It involves pulling out the headlight assembly and an hour or so of your day repairing the motor. It's very strait forward and it's a cheap repair. Lucky for us one of our sponsors supplies a kit with every needed to rebuild. You can read all about the problem in detail and order the kit here:

When you gt it out, tak a look at the gear box. Mine had the plastic part of the gear separated fromt he metal part. Now get the whole gear thing out and look at how the metal part and the plastic part have a somewhat star shaped pattern underneath. Throw some 1/4 inch nuts ( i used three) in there, put the gear back together, and close up the gear box. The nuts allow the star patterns to lock into each other and move the plastic part along with themetal part. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. Try it out on the bench before you put it back togetehr. I love how you can manually open and close these things without needing to hook anything up
Or if the gear is stripped, you'll need a new gear completely.
Also, I don't see where any of those bushings go that are in those rebuild kits. Was my headlight special? I saw no bushings whatsoever and the headlight works

I didnt see mine either, but thats because they're not intact, mine all disintegrated onto my table when I opened it up. To answer you question, the three bushings go underneath the plasic gear. You might wanna take apart the motor again and take out those nuts because thats where the bushings go. Otherwise you could damage the plasic gear.

Whoops, thanks for the heads up on that. Someone needs to draw up a diagram because I kept seeing repair guides talking about bushings and I couldn't figure out what the heck they were talking about.
