Assembling BARE heads

I am looking to buy the Pro Topline 180CC, 64CC heads.

I have a set of 416 casting heads that were built up with good springs, 2.02/1.60 valves etc that broke a stud boss.

My question is, can I buy the pro heads BARE and just swap my valves, springs, keepers, retainers etc over? then just buy the studs/guideplates and be good to go?

Would I need a valve job?

Even if I needed a valve job, a local shop charges $100 and they port everything around the valve included in the valve grind.

The total for the bare head, guideplates/studs, and valve grind(if needed) is $720! Plus I'll be using some of the parts I already paid for that have 4000miles on them, and save money. Enginekits is $750shipped and I've heard bad things from their assemblies.... and summit wants 855.

INFO WOULD BE GREAT! Thanks
-Paul

If your existing valves are in good condition, all you'll need to do is lightly lap them to the seats of the new heads.

You will need valve grinding compound and a lapping tool. You should be able to find both at the local parts store. The tool has suction cup ends on it. put a small amount of compound on the valve where it meets the seat and place it into the head. Now using the lapping tool rotate the valve on the valve seat. I usually rotate the valve for about 20-30 seconds back and forth. After doing all of the valves you will need the mark which valve goes ware. Remove the valves and clean them and the heads really well to remove all of the compound. Now reassemble your heads.

I bought my heads bare and had a head guy assemble them...I wanted to make sure that decent parts were used and it was done correctly....

The cost of getting the assembly done was like $175 which included cutting the valve guides for PC seals...

Go ahead and use your existing stuff...if you are comfortable that it all is in good condition.
