Fuel pump replacement?

Well, I've eliminated all other possibilities.... i've got a f***ed fuel pump. Replacing it isn't hard, but getting to it is a bitch. I either have to take off the back axle, exhaust sytem, and pull down the fuel tank, or I could just cut out the section of metal directly under the rear hatch and get to it from there. I was wondering if anyone's ever replaced their fuel pump, how they did it, and what they would recommend doing. Thanks for the help guys.
Oh yeah, it's a 1986 Z28 5.0L w/TPI

I vote for not cutting the sheet metal. Just drop the rearend, and may as well do a couple things that you want wall you're at it, (like LCA's, different shocks, etc. if you had it planned) and retain the vehicle's structural integrity. You have to cut more than just the metal, you'll have to cut the fuel lines too to get the pump out the "easy" way.

if you wanna do it right its just tedious...

jack up rear ended car...un bolt 2 bolts that hold rear sway bars..

undue muffler, and heat shield...(couple bolts)

two straps holding in tank.. undue..hoses attached to lines entering tank, then you have to finagle the tank out of there... hardest part is getting filler neck out..

speaking of, undue the plastic filler neck stuff and cap.

then get the tank out...

hardest part is getting tank back in
