How much longer will my motor last???
How much longer will my motor last???
Guys I have a 1987 IROC Z with the 305 TPI and I think it has a sprung bearing because one of my rods is tapping. Any idea on how long this will last??? My mechanic said maybe another 15k. Does this sound about right???

TPI 305,
Gutted airboxes,
gutted MAF,
K&N filters,
Corvette Servo.

If one of the bearings has spun it may not last for the next startup...if it is just knocking it depends on how you drive it...it may last a cpl hundred miles and it may not..If you rebuild it now you may still have something to work with if you wait till it throws the rod you most likely will have to buy a new engine
[you definetly don't want to be in the car when it throws a rod either. I've heard too many horror stories from my dad and other people of some wierd things a rod will do when it is thrown. Not only will it come out of the block but you don't know where it's going if it does come out. If it's a bearing it won't last much longer and the best bet is to go ahead and have it rebuilt before you ruin the engine beyond repair. Is your mechanic wanting to rebuild it? If so I would get a few more opinions of what it is. There may be a simpler/cheaper fix than an entire rebuild or another explanation to the noise your hearing.
