350 TPI on a budget
350 TPI on a budget
I blew up my 305 last week, so now I want to go to a 350...I have a budget of about $2,000 not including the install. Everything from the 305 is good except for the bottom end, and I would rather not get anything from salvaged cars if I can help it...
Is this possible? What would I need to look for?

You can buy a create motor from GM. Part # 12513151. It has a real good bottom end. The motor is complete from the pan to the heads. I paid $1490.00 for mine. I changed the heads ,cam and put a superram setup on mine.
Hope this helps- Jeff

a 350 short block and some machine work on the 305 heads (bigger valves etc) ecu from a 350 car, pretty sure the tpi setup is the same for both cars except for the injectors? i could be wrong.. its easily within your budget... dont know how much you'd actually pay for labor.. why not just buy an engine hoist for 150 or rent one and do it yourself? then ya got more money for mods
Jeffsbluez, that's actually exactly what I had in mind...do you have any timeslips/dyno runs with that combo?
Also, where did you get it for $1490? SD sells it for $1570, but I have a guy who can get it less due to owning a shop, he's going to get me a price on it on Monday.

I wouldn't use the 305 heads on that engine, the CR will be quite high. I'd look for a set of L98 heads (64cc, will be around 9.6:1 CR) in the junkyard and have them cleaned and checked and valve job done.

You can get a stock 350 shortblock from Speed-O-Motive for $1250 or a 383 stroker for $1350. Shipping is FREE! I have a stroker from them and have been running it for 4 years and am very happy with it. they even sent me a 4 bolt main block since they didn't have any 2 bolt main blocks available at the time.

Now, considering the business I'm in I'd top it off with a set of LT1 heads and intake and still be under your $2000 budget.
