Help Removing Crank Gear
Help Removing Crank Gear
Is there any way to rig the ballance puller to also pull of the crank gear? I was thinking along the lines of reversing the bolts and use a washer as a lip to grab on to the back of the gear.
never tried it that way but it's possible. I usually use a pair of prybars or a 3-jaw puller to get it off, Kyle

The 2 lever pry bars should work. Also shoot it up with some spray penetrant used for rusty bolts. If you use a puller on the nose of the crank, protect the threads by installing the crank bolt.

If it's the factory cast iron one you're removing and don't want to keep it, use a hammer and a chisel and smack the gear right at the keyway. The cast iron gear will split and fall off the crank.
If it's a steel gear like a roller chain type then you need a gear puller. You can try a "little" heat on the gear. Were talking just hot enough that spit will bubble not glowing red hot. This will expand the gear and a light tap should remove it.
