I have a ticking too. I usually hear it best when I'm idling at a fast food drive through. I'm pretty sure it's not an exhaust leak. When I get out to try to locate it it sounds like it's coming from below my distributor...
Also when I accelerate I hear a loud ticking that sounds like it's coming from my ECM...

I have a slight tick up around the intake, fuel rail, area somebody told me its caused by dirty injectors, can't hear it from inside the cab nor is it loud enough to hear with hood closed. I would be concerned if I could here it ticking ar tapping any type of unusual noise that gets loud enough to hear while your sitting inside the car.

I have been using 87 octane and will try a different one. The ticking is not all the time, only sometimes. but it is not near loud enough to hear from inside the car. I am having it checked soon.

i have had this "ticking" problem several times on my car. seriously you guys should check the tightness of your exhaust manifold( headers especialy ) bolts AND the gasket to see if its blown. the ticking noise that i had sounded like it was comeing from the intake manifold somewhere originaly. if your useing plain old paper gasket and you find a few loose bolts you probly should replace both gaskets with copper ones (expensive but worth it in the end). by useing copper ones you wont have to spend hours scrapeing caked on paper gasket off the surfaces ever again. oh, and dont use loc-tite or any kind of thread lock on the exhaust bolts. it is totaly useless and will eventualy back out again, use lock washers(i made this mistake already).
I did not do anything to the car prior to this sound i have had the car just over a year and did not drive it much in winter (only like 2 times) and just recently noticed the sound a few days ago. I started driving the car full time in april. So it is nothing i did to the car.

Get a piece of fuel or vacuum hose about 3 feet long. Put one end in your ear & run the other end around the area where the sound is coming from until you find it.

I just installed a new manifold and put the distrib in and set the timing. Now when it idles and revs, it TICKS pretty loud from the distributor. Anyone know if this is fixable, did i do something wrong with the distrib install???? Thanks.

My mechanical fuel pump makes a ticking noise. I thought it was the timing chain, but it clearly comes from the pump when I use a piece of hose to listen.

OK im an idiot, I double checked the timing and it was 12 deg advanced base timing. I re-adjusted to 6 and its fine. I used the dial type of timing light and was first time so I put the thing on 6 and adjusted to 6 and adjusted it to 6 on the tab, hence 12 deg!
Only remaining issue i have now is a broken carb bolt in the manifold so im only bolted down on three corners, vac leak! I broke a EZ out off in the bolt too so im screwed. Can i drill the hole next it in the carb base wider so i can bolt into the squarebore hole in the performer? (its the driverside rear bolt).

I have lots of ticks but thats another story.

I hear what your are talking about EVERY time i go through a drive-through. It sounds like a limb with leaves or something is slapping the flywheel. Anything over 10mph its gone. Its only there at low speeds and you can only hear it if your real close to a wall.

I have a similar problem. With mine it seems to happen when I first start driving the car, but after a while it pretty much goes away after it warms up..it also sounds like it is coming from the drivers side more than anywhere else...anyone have any ideas? I think it could possibly be the exhaust leak idea...one or two of the a.i.r. tubes on that side are a little loose on the manifold.
usaally ticking is is coming from the valves,if it is not the fuel pump check the valves ,the ticking is when it lightly hit the valve cover or something, that is my .02 cents worth

The other issue that lthlcamaro is having would probably be lifter tap caused by lifter wear or dirt that has begun to clog up the oil port in the hydraulic lifter.
What you could do is next oil change substitue 1 quart of trany fluid for oil. Trany fluid will not hurt the engine and has great cleaning abilities. They make products like resoline that basically are the same stuff. I have 3 cars that have had lifter ticks that with the application of 1 q of trany fluid solved the problem. I did not run the oil for the full 3k but at least 1k-2k and it did a great job.
