885?

The only Vortec heads I know of are 062 and 906.

There are a couple of Vortec 305 heads, but from what I've heard and read, they flow less than 187, 191, and 193 heads.

I don't see a casting number with 885 in either of my two books, nor at www.mortec.com

Is there anything special about these heads that makes you want them?

Trucks.

IIRC, 1996 and up.. 1997 and up for sure. If you can actually find a P/U, Tahoe, or Suburban at the scrap yard with the heads still on the motor, look for the L31 RPO code. Or look at the casting number on the block. Make sure it's a 350. The 305 heads are POS.

But good luck finding them. We have about 5 junkyards around here and NONE of them have any. They're excellent heads for guys running circle track that have to use "stock production" parts. Even some guys that don't have to run stock production still nab them all.

Your best bet is Ebay. But don't bid against me!!!!

And don't forget these heads are less than $500 new, so don't go buy a set and a bunch more on getting them good. Vortec's come with the same junky cast iron guides that all factory heads have, so consider them suspect after 100,000 miles. They also come from the factory with the intake valves back cut 36 degrees which enhances flow on any head. Make sure the machine shop you use is familiar with this technique or you will be better off buying them new.
