need help connecting egr solenoid

I had the motor rebuilt in the car and evidently they never put back on the vacuum solenoid. Ive found one and i want to hook it back up the proper way but i dont know where the vacuum lines are coming from to plug into the solenoid.I found the two prong electrical connector but not the vacuum lines, dont they first come from the fire wall somewhere to the solenoid first. then from the solenoid to the egr valve and to the vacuum plug under the very front of the plenum. this is on a 1987 transam by the way with5.7ltr 350.

There are only two lines on the EGR vacuum solenoid. One is a timed vacuum source from the fitting under the throttle body. The other line goes directly to the EGR valve. The third port on the EGR vacuum solenoid is an atmospheric vent, to "dump" vacuum from the EGR valve when the solenoid closes. There should have been a small cube of foam filter material glued to it from the factory. Those deterioate and fall off within a few years of engine heating and use. The system works just fine without the "filter".

thanks for the help i was shure the metal keepers on the back of the solenoid was meant to hold a vacuum line on to keep it from coming loose but it just held a piece of foam in place. The picture really helped in understanding.

one more question the solenoid that i have has the rubber piece that the lines are going in come straight out rather than curve up as your picture shows but the port with the metal end goes to the front bottom of the throttle body and the black plastic one goes to the egr.is this correct?

This is what I posted in your other thread (which is why opening multiple threads for the same problem can get confusing) :

From Vader
...If you use the upper (black) vacuum line as the source from the TB, and connect the lower (gray) line to the EGR valve, everything should work normally...
Whichever line connects to the bottom solenoid fitting should connect to the EGR valve, the other to the TB vacuum line.
