my engine?

i've got an 89 trans am with the LO3 (?) maybe. is there a way i can check the cast numbers on the block without taking the motor out? i am really interested in this because yesterday i revved my engine at this el camino i saw.. 350, cawl hood, and definitely didn't sound stock, well i got behind him and he gunned it so i was like well i can try... and i was just catching up and catching up and before you know it i was past him and i couldn't believe it. i would like to know if this car has the LO3 or something else... how loppy are the LO3's stock (the cams) when i'm sitting at a redlight my car is pretty loppy and seems like it's got a bigger cam in it. but i never heard another LO3 and don't know how they sound. well if this is a 305.. i am going to show alot of people around here that 305 is better then people think. thanks guys

look in front of the passanger side head.. there is a small ledge to the left of the water pump in front of the head with numbers on it.. there should be a partial vin from the vehicle it came from as well as a suffix code.. should be able to determine what it is from that.. will probably havta clean some grime off to see em.. also in back of the drivers side head on the ledge where the tranny bellhousing bolts to there is the block casting number.. might havta push some wires outa the way clean it up and get a small mirror to see it though.. next to this depending on year should be the engines cubic inches listed in litres.. so more info or to look up the numbers check out www.mortec.com
