The Choke light on my 87 Camaro 305 4 bbl came on yesterday when I was speeding down the highway. At first it went on and off but now it stays on all the time. It's really annoying because its bright orange. Does anyone what could be causing this problem? If I check the codes should it give me any info? Could this have anything to do with the fact that I took off the cat?

If I recall, RB says the Alt. output runs through the chokelight. Get the Alternator tested.

Someone else may confirm this.

Shouldn't have any relation to the removal of the cat.

 

yes thats the light for ur Alt., change ur alternator and it will go away.

 

That is correct, it is your alternator.

Get a new alternator (or put the belt back on).

 

The alternator output doesn't really "run through" the choke lamp. This is the circuit:

 

Replace the voltage regulator in the alternator.
