i maybe getting a 454 long block for my 91 firebird but i wanted to know if i could keep the 700R-4 i mean i don't want to swap out to a th400 so i wanted to know if a 700R-4 would bolt up to the big block and would the trans hold up with the HP

the trans just got rebuild less then 500miles ago it has a TransGo shift kit and a 2200 Stall (its the old school 27 spline)

anyone know?

(PS to vader i posted this under this board and not the motor swap board cuz my main ?? is is the trans will bolt up to the big block)

 

all SBC, BBC, and 90* chevy V6 engines use the same bolt pattern for the trans, so yes it'll bolt up.

 

sweet now my next ? is what HP does a stock 454 put out? i know my trans is good up to 500HP

 

Depends on what you've actually got.

"Stock" 454 HP has been "rated" anywhere from about 225 to about 425. Who's to say what whatever you've got and whatever it needs that you don't have yet will do after you've got it together and installed.

 

Yeah it will bolt up those 4L60s are very strong! And if your getting a 454 i would get a higher stall TC like 3000-3500RPM.
