Will this cam work for me????
Will this cam work for me????
I have a 5.7 TPI motor out of an 88 Trans Am GTA. I have been looking for camshafts. I found in Summit K-Cam kits by Comp. Will these cams work on computer controlled motors like mine? Thanks.
If it's a roller cam it will work and it also needs to be listed as a lsa of at least 112, if it doesn't say roller or costs $100 or less for just the cam then it's not a roller and won't work with out a lot of things changed.

You should stay with a roller, they run a whole lot better than a flat-tappet even with the same specs on paper. They are not at all the same shape. You don't need new roller lifters.
Here is the cam for you...

This is a roller cam, for the later-model style of block like you have. Definitely replace the springs with the ones Comp recommends, your stock ones won't last long and if you've ever seen what happens to a motor when a spring breaks and allows a valve to fall into a cylinder you will want to avoid stressing your valve springs unnecessarily.
If you have the heads off, get the 266HR instead. It requires machining the heads for the larger springs, unless Comp will spec the use of that cam with the springs that have a smaller diameter at one end to fit the stock diameter pockets..
