update on running problems
found out why car wouldnt idle right, first of all there were some vacuum leaks, one at the egr valve itself and the other where the plenum gasket is,i found this out by using carburator cleaner and spraying it around every connection possible and if the engine reved then there was a vacuum leak.i tightened everything up and replaced all my soft vacuum hoses, then i got to the vacuum canister and seen that it was hooked up wrong and redone all the lines, the fuel smell i was having was because the line running to the fuel tank was hooked to wrong inlet on the vacuum canister.i checked all my plug wires and found that 2 had burns and cracks so i replaced all of them.when i had the motor rebuilt they damaged the iac connector, so i got another one and spliced it in and it works fine was the first time i could feel it pulsing with the ignition on, adjusted everything again with unplugging the timing connector this time and evrything worked great.the car is running fine but has a slight surge and i found out that the egr solenoid was never put back on the car so i am now in the process of doing that, this should cure that problem because it needs the solenoid to fine tune the vacuum to the egr, right now its getting to much wich is causing the slight surge, now ive seen where people have questioned about a slight lope to there car,the tpi does produce a very slight lope but can only be heard with usually a 3 inch exhaust system.now to the tps sensor, it seems there might be a slight misconception about the voltage output readings, it doesnt have to put out over 4.0 volts at wide open throttle, each car will be different based on many different factors, but the maf sensor will put out between .50volts to over 4.5 volts at wide open throttle.this has been a learning experience for me with countless hours of research.THE PROBLEMS STARTED WHEN I HAD THE MOTOR REBUILT. NO ONE WILL TREAT YOUR CAR AS YOU WILL SO I WOULD SUGGEST THAT EVERYONE TRY TO DO AS MUCH THEMSELVES AS YOU CAN.I have taken the car to many different shops and have had so many things replaced that didnt even need it and im sick of it, just because your car puts out a code doesnt mean the part is bad it could be just a simple vacuum line being knocked off, or maybe something just needs tightening. If you dont know much about your car then you will run a very high repair bill at the shops.these message boards are an excellent tool to learn by and i appreciate all the input i can get even if its not right at least the average person out here has a fighting chance to fix the problem themselves and save a whole lot of money.Im very proud of our car its a 1987 transam 95% restored with only 75000 miles on it, everything on it is basically new we have about 15,000 invested in it and i dont appreciate any mechanic not treating it like its their very own so read up everyone and learn its free!!!!!!!!
