The mortec site doesn't tell you very much about any casting.
The 487 castings fall into the same casting group as 993 and 997's. They are open chamber (76cc) heavy casting heads. The were used on intermediate performance 350 and 400's. Most of them came with 1.94/1.5 valves but a few were available with 2.02/1.6.

Thanks for the info Stephen, I just removed one of the heads so I'll check the valve sizings...depending on which size, how much do you think I could get for the pair?
UPDATE: just checked the sizes...unfortunately, they're the smaller valves so I can't imagine that I could sell these for very much, but an ballpark would be nice.

With all the aftermarket choices now, stock cast iron heads are not worth as much as you'd like.
Small valves, small single (with dampener) valve springs, press in rocker studs. To someone desperate for those castings, they may be worth $400. The "most" I'd pay for a set is $100 and when I found a set I liked I got them for $25. By the time you get all the machine work done to them to make them good performance heads, you can buy a good set of aftermarket ones for the same or less money. Not including the time I spent porting my small block heads, I invested over $1000 into them. I could have bought some Dart heads for around $800. (Canadian prices)
I'm currently looking for a set of big block heads with good castings. I think I may go the same route and just buy some Merlin, completely assembled heads. It'll be expensive to make the lump sum payment but will be cheaper and better off in the long run.
Don't forget, old cast iron heads that were once considered performance heads are now 30 years old. Technology has changed and there are much better choices out there. Leave the old castings for someone who's building a "numbers matching" car or for someone who runs in Stock Eliminator and needs those castings.
HP is in heads and old heads don't have the potential that the new heads can offer.

Thanks for the advice Stephen. Reusing these heads wasn't ever on my mind just because they don't flow at all...I got these with the block I bought this weekend that I'm using for the 383 buildup and I'm planning on Victor Jr. 23* heads so I was just going to try to sell these to help pay for some of this buildup.
