A/C compressor removal on V-belt setups
I have removed all of the A/C from my 87 V-belt set up excpt for the compressor itself. I'm wondering if I can just remove the compressor and the belt tht it uses or o I have to buy a shorter belt that goes round the power steering pump etc? I know there is already a belt there but at the moment they are doubled up.
If I do need to get a shorter belt does nyone know a part# or length tht I need? I'd measure but my car is currently 3000 miles away in Europe.
Thanks for the help
Rob

There should only be one belt that goes around the A/C Compressor.
Take that one belt off, and take off the compressor, lines, and the whole heater box and get an A/C Delete box.
You'll have the crank and water pump pulleys having an open slot in the line, but that is no big deal. (maybe the PS pump too come to think of it)
I havn't had A/C on my V belt setups in years. That's always the first thing to go.

I just took that one belt off and havn't ever had a problem.
Did that on my '85 and ran it for 40,000miles, and my '87 that's got about 60k from when it was taken off.
It runs around the PS but the PS also has one that is dedicated to it.
If you look, there isn't a good way to route the belt for the A/C directly, so they made it go around things IE the PS pump.
