Smog Pump Delete

My belt was bad, so I figure what the heck, ill buy the belt for the smog pump delete, since im going to be putting headers on my car as soon as theyre back from jet-hot. I thought "I can just take the pulley off, and slap the other belt right on" But, the pump is still in the way. Does the black thing come off, or am I just going to have to wait until I tear everything off when i put the headers on?

IIRC, That black thing you are referring to is on one of the studs for the headers. If you just take the nut off the stud it should come off. This is if we are talking about the same part.

you might want to try to take off the smog pump pulley and see if the belt will not get in the way. if it still does just pull the pump out, the bolts in the back holding the black box to it, and the front main bolts holding the pump to the bracket.

you might as well just pull all the a.i.r stuff in order to save time during the header install.

i know the pully has to come off, but there is still something in the way. Ive decided ill just wait until I put the headers on anyways. Has anyone made a detailed guide of removing all the smog stuff or can someone give me them. I dont want to have to damage anything taking it off, just in case i have to put it back on

You’ll need a torx head, a ˝" drive ratchet or breaker bar, two wrenches/sockets of the same size, and a pry bar.

Use the ˝" drive breaker bar to swing the tenstioner up and remove the belt.

Put your two wrenches/sockets on 2 of the 3 bolts on the pulley. One is to keep her from spinning and the other's to loosen. DO NOT REMOVE IT!!!

Move your wrenches to the next bolts (counter-clockwise) and repeat.

Now you'll have to extract the two you've loosened enough so you can wedge the breaker bar between them to keep the pulley from rotating. Now loosen the 3rd bolt.

After you remove the pulley you'll be able to access the torx head bolts that hold the pump onto the pulley. Go easy because if you strip on of those torx heads you'll be fined for obscene conduct.

Good luck.
