Temp Gauge not working & tach off

Pulled 305TBI and installed 350carb w/ HEI. With a T5 Trans!!!
VERY IMPRESSSIVE!!!!!!!!!! Trans shows no signs of breaking....yet.

Runs great. Using stock gauges. Computer not hooked up, wires cut that were not needed. Anyway, temp gauge doesnt work. I am using the same wires from the TBI for the 350.The needle buries itself then goes back to 100 when I start the car, then while it runs, the temp gauge never moves. Bought a new sending unit, still doesnt work. I looked in haynes to see wiring diagram. it all looks good. do i need to run a hot wire to the sending unit? Or a new wire from the sending unit to the dash gauge?

Tach seems off also. It reads 7k+ around the time it needs to shift. Any suggestions?

Does you distributor include a tach filter, or is it designed for an external tach filter like the early '80s cars?
