Fuel Pressure

i have been having fuel pressure bleeding back through the supply on my 88 formula. i can clamp off the return and supply and then cut the car off and the pressure stays. it even stays when i release the return. so i thought it was a check valve in the pump, replaced the pump and it still does it. now i have been hearing about this pulsator thing!!! what else could it be since i put a new pump in and reused the pulsator? would the pulsator make it hard for the pump to prime all the way up to 45psi.? once it gets started it does fine, just takes forever to start sometimes , and it is because the pressure drops to zero immediatley after pump halfass primes the system. any help is appreciated.

What you are describing is probably the pulsation damper. I wouldn't install nor reuse one. I replace the device with a section of fuel hose and clamps to prevent exactly what you are experiencing.

Your fuel pump can probably make only 80 PSI on a really good day, so high pressure hose isn't a necessity.
