fuel injected for under $700??
Hey guys is there any fuelinjection that I can put on my motor with the cam i have in my sig and be fine? also I don;t won;t to loose crazy amounts of power and go to tpi. So is there anything I can do for under $700 cause i can't stand carbs. If theres not then theres no reason to keep this car and i will have to get a mustang. thanks

you need the rest of the setup (tpi) though. they can be had used from thirdgenresource at reasonable prices.

Converting to fuel injection will cost you at least $1000+ even if you use my LT1 intake conversion.

I believe I'd just change the cam, and go from there, instead of trying to graunch FI onto that setup. That's a FI-hostile cam, because it's going to make the motor idle in such a way that a computer will have a tough time figuring out what to do. There's lots of better cams around than that old High Energy 280 anyway.
Another possibility is to get rid of that Carter carb, and put a performance one on it. Try a Holley 700 or 750 with manual secondaries, like a 477x series. You might find that with a decent carb you all of a sudden wouldn't hate carbs any more.

no see wut u don;t seem to understand is i hate carbs, a holley or a wutever will act the same in bad weather and good weather and will eat gas and prob more then what i have now. Switching the cam is something i am not willing to do cause its alot of work that i don;t feel like putting into a thirdgen thats never gonna really be worth anything. Fuel injection is what i am after and thats the bottom line, carbs are something i have tried and i hate and i refuse to drive a car with one so please save yourself time and do not suggest how i can make it better with a carb. thanks

Hmm, doesn't leave many options for that price range.
I would try this, pick up a used complete TPI setup with everything, wiring harness, sensors, injectors, ECM, distributor, etc, you can get this for around $500 (Thirgen Resource above used to have them, try there). Take the actual base, runners and plenum and sell them since you won't use them. Then purchase either a used LT1 intake ($400 premodded from above) or maybe a Holley StealthRam if you want to spend a little more. That would take care of the entire fuel injection system and performance problems, you'd only need to worry about the ECM programming and odds and ends. There has got to be someone on the board who would be willing to custom burn you a chip for cheap I would think. If not you're over budget...
If you can manage that you should come close to your $700 limit, although I think you'll be over a bit but not toooo badly... In reality it will be closer to the $1000 limit, can't swing that? Then what exactly are you going to do with this Mustang? If you just have to sell that Formula try buying a 350 TPI thirdgen instead, you'd have a great base to work from there unless for some reason you'd rather have the Stang, then suit yourself...

A lot of people have good advice, you really ought to consider listening. I put a used and untuned Holley on my engine and it ran *almost* perfect as is! I was later in the process of converting to an LT1 intake but I blew my engine so I decided to just rebuild my carb and sell all the EFI parts I already bought so I can pay for the engine rebuild. As mentioned, it was going to cost me about $1000 for the conversion because like you, I was starting with a car that was not TPI from the factory so I needed ALL the sensors, the fuel pump, harness, ecm, fuel lines, etc., etc. Contrary to popular belief, a carb will make as much power as EFI and the fuel economy is pretty close to that of EFI too. Also, just like a carb, EFI will need tuning, which is much more expensive because you need chip burning hardware. Unless you're willing to go with a TPI setup, which no one will recommend over a carb, then you'll be very hard pressed to do EFI for under $700. Get a good carb, spend a few days tuning it and you'll be good to go.

Ok, you want fuel injection. Fine. It will cost you more then $700 unless you are very thrifty.
We are hear to help and are just throwing out ideas. If you swap the cam yes you will still be carbed but you will have a good cam for WHEN you convert to fuel injection.
Go to www.car-parts.com for great prices on wire harnesses, computers, ect... to help you switch over.
