Speedo needle jumping

What does it mean when the speedo needle jumps around when you are moving at a constant speed?

Kinked speedometer cable. Possibly just needs lube, but more likely has a kink in it somewhere.

I've got the same problem- I heard it could also be a chipped tooth in the speedometer cable gear in the transmission, but I haven't had a chance to check that out yet...
