Stock '88 heads carbed?

Hey everyone. I just bought myself a '88 350 block w/ crank, rods, and pistons. I can also get the heads for pretty cheap, and was wondering since I will be going non-CC carbed with this thing, can I use those heads or do I have to look around for others? Thanks!

Not sure on casting numbers or what it's coming out of, but hopefully I'll get an answer to that shortly. Here's a picture of them if that helps:

Nope, need the casting numbers. They are on top of the head. An 8 digit number.

I already asked that guy on eBay the casting number, yesterday. They are 14101083's. When I saw he was in California, I changed my mind on them, since I already have a cracked set that I bought off of eBay. He didn't have a whole lot of information on them, so I'm passing on them myself.

Interesting. With that casting #, are these heads the kind I'm looking for? I hope I have better luck with this guy than you did with those cracked heads, sorry to hear that. I've already got a bid in but it's minimal, so we'll just see.

That picture looked familiar. Those are the casting numbers I was looking for, as suggested by a few forum members here. I just don't feel like paying the more than $50 shipping cost for another set, that may be junk or arrive that way. I'm on the east coast like you and will try to find another set, more local. I would have him pull the valves and check the seats for cracks before they were shipped to me. Cracks could be lurking under the valves, not seen assembled.

Good luck with the auction and make sure he ships them seperately, with the all the bolts removed. The shipper didn't with my heads. Mine came and looked like UPS dropped them out of an airplane. UPS dropped the box on my deck and high-tailed it out of there, before I saw the box, to refuse delivery. Cracked, gashed, gouged and broken off studs. The castings are wasted. Waiting on the insurance claim now.

whats up with that??? I ordered an intake and had it shiped via ups and the thing looked like they left it out in the lot and let the semis run over it for a while. Hell, the intake wasnt really even in the box any more, the last few shreds of the box where just sort of 'hangin' on for the ride' by a shred of packing tape. Do they purposfully try to destroy stuff? Never use them again.

That really does suck badone, I hope this works out. You said those were the numbers you were told to look for, so I assume these are the kind I want to get?

I'm not only mad at UPS. I'm more aggrevated with the idiot who packed them both in one box, with all the valve cover and exhaust bolts in the heads. Why he thought I would want the rusted bolts is beyond me.

Yeah, those are them. A set of 217's would work for you too, but they might have perimeter valve covers. Or the 081, 601 and I "think" 801. I chose to stick with the 083's so I wouldn't have to get them opened up for 1.94 intakes and are already 64cc. I'm looking to hand pick a set of heads now or just buy a new replacement set ot Pro Toplines. My project is dragging on too long for me now.

Actually I know a couple of people who work for delivery type companies. There seems to be an idiot everywhere looking for boxes that say "fragile, handle with care"... those are the ones they give special attention to. I think they got PO'd because of the weight and dragged, dropped and abused that box. Last year I had UPS put a fork from a forklift, through a computer and ask me if I that was the original manufacturer's packaging. Otherwise, they wouldn't cover the damage.
