WTF is wrong with my car alarm???

OK Last night at 1:00 in the morning I get woken up by some idiot's car alarm going off. Just out of curiousity, I peek out my blinds. Hey! That's my car! So I scramble around, find my remote, and turn it off.

BUT! Why the heck did it go off? IT WASN'T EVEN ARMED!!!

I've been having problems with it going off for no reason (when I had it on), so I haven't been turning it on! So, now even though it wasn't on, it managed to trigger itself? WTF?? Any ideas?

The only thing I've noticed is that it seems to do it more on cold nights, and last night was the coldest we've had yet this fall.

Help! I'm going out there right now to disconnect the speaker on the damn thing.

Check to make sure that is is not set to passive arm. That would explain the self arming. Also, the glass break / motion detector is probably what caused the alarm to go off. Cold weather makes these types of sensors much more sensitive. Try adjusting that sensor, or if you didn't install the alarm, take it to whoever did. They will usually adjust them for free.

Unfortunately the alarm was in the car when I bought it, no documentation, no idea who installed it. No idea what sensors it even has, really. Thanks though, I may try to take a look at that sensor if I can figure it out. I guess it's time to learn how car alarms work :-).

Oh and it definitely did NOT passive arm. It never has before, I don't think it would do it just spontaneously once a year.

Right now the speaker is sitting on a shelf in my closet. Maybe I'll reconnect it if I ever am able to adjust the glass break sensor.

Funny, I've noticed my Viper alarm will go off every once & a while in cold weather, for no reason. Glad to hear I'm not the only one
