good or bad engine setup
alright.
some of you may be annoyed of so many people asking these lame questions on there engine setup if its good or bad.
but i was reading one and someone said the heads were to big for the engine.
then it got me thinking.
im making a 383 and making a drag car.
so far i got the block and ready to go to the shop to get bored out and cleaned.
but for parts this is what its going to have.
The Engine: 383 stroker
Forged 383 Crank and 6 inch long h beam rods
forged probed flat top pistions
aluminum Patriot Performance heads. 2.08/1.60 valves and 72cc with 225 intake runners.
aluminum rockers
750 or 800 double pump carb.
the cam i have no clue on what to get. i hear you can have way to much cam. but i hear some people you need lots of cam with the big heads. so im stuck in that department. i dont want to overkill the engine that its not running top preformance.
im still learning tho. so i gotta start somewhere.
but i always thought bigger is better.
well sometimes lol more and fuel is better. thats what i thought.
but since the heads seem farly big i need your guys opinion.
its gunna be a strickly a drag car.
im hoping to get a 6-71 blower on there in the next 2 years or so.
give any opinions. good or bad. ill take em all
----------
crap forgot about the intake.
its a highrise manifold. so many brands out there so ill say edelbrock vic highrise.
and full headers.
probably with 3inch pipes. exiting just before the rear tires

Re: good or bad engine setup
You'd need a huge cam for those heads. Forget about being able to drive it on the street. If you're going to put a blower on, forget about flat top pistons, too.

Re: good or bad engine setup
with a blower you need lower compression (dished pistons)

what would be some good pistions?
and what size of cam would i need to get??
i dont want to overkill it with cam.
or not enough cam. would 600 lift or 650?

Re: good or bad engine setup
Lift is a perk of the cam. Pick it based on duration. Drag only? 383 with 225cc intake heads? I'd think in the 245/255° at .050". Split pattern with more on exhaust is great for a blower. Wider LSA as well.
This will not be street friendly, but you'd make great power.
6-71 blower? Use dismal compression, shoot for 8:1. KB makes some nice 25-30cc dished pistons for a 383 application. Probably look at 5.7" rods, I think the selection is better. It tends to give more ring land area, which is nice when you're going to be heating it up with a blower.

Re: good or bad engine setup
hey thanks so much!
so 5.7 is better then a 6inch rod?
that seems like a pretty huge cam there haha. ill have to do some more searching for that cam.
and dished pistions.
any other things that would be good or im forgetting about?
