What happens if I disconnect my carbon cannister?
I have a 92 formula 305 TPI and I was wondering what would happen if I disconnected the cannister. Would I get service engine lights? Would my car run crappy? I heard something about the stock PROM having the smog stuff burned in so it needs it to run optimum.
Also, does the carbon cannister still function properly laying on it's side? I built a little cold air induction setup and I had to move the cannister.
thanks guys.

You mean the charcoal canister? If so, people here all have horror stories about disconnecting it, but I've had mine out of the car for over a year. At the moment I just have a little duct tape over the steel line.

I don't think it will work well on it's side. The "heavy" gas fumes are supposed to sink into the charcoal.

I've had the canister removed for a while now with the steel tube opened (I was never really comfortable with this)....can you just remove the tube?

crazeinc, I think the tube connects to your fuel tank. Which sucks. Why the hell did GM put the charcoal cannister blocking the intake for the airbox?
By the way, I have one more question. What is the engines main source for incoming air. Is it the open area on the passenger side fender? Or the two 4inch holes behind the passenger side headlight.
Thanks.

from what a good friend told me a few years back was not to remove the canister. Forgot the exact reasoning but he advised not to. He was helping me work out my bugs after my 305 to 30hp 350 swap and had dissconected it for a few days to try and eliminate a problem.
