Required Reading Suggestions

I've been shopping for some books/manuals to get my hands on and I would like to know what everyone suggests. I'm keeping an eye out for a service manual, but I need some suggestions for a chevy engine rebuilding guide. Since this is going to be a mail order deal I would like to hear what everyone thinks is the best one to pick up before I order one. Thanks.

Why only one? Why limit yourself?

There is no "One book" for that kind of thing, unless you only need a refresher course; i.e. something to jogg your memory.

There are SO MANY good books. Some tell you every size of every fastner including cotter pins (Chilton), and some speak in laman's terms so the average guy/gal can understand what to do (Haynes).

There is a rumor floating around about some book called (IIRC) "Helmes Manual". It's THE book that gave all GM assembly line specs.

I'm sure somone can verify if for you if they read this and it joggs their memory.

Yeap, I have it, it's expensive, but definitely worth it. It will tell you anything you want to know. It literally comes with thousands of pages of very useful info.

I've seen these helms manuals and I can't wait to get my hands on one. What I'm looking for right now is to pick up a couple of the guides written by individual authors. I'm was thinking of picking up one of the "how to rebuild a small block chevy" books and getting busy on the 350 I've got waiting to be redone.

I've got a couple of weeks free coming up and I want to get busy on this thing, but when you search for these how to books online it's hard to tell if you are getting something that's really going to be useful or not.

I was hoping to get some suggestions for individual author's work. Maybe we can get a poll going if we get some names/book titles together.
