degrees timing?

i have an 87 T/A 305 4 bbl. i was wondering what i should be running timing wise. i always use 93 octane gas, and am about to switch to a 180 degree stat. i am running 2-4 degress on average with the 4-pin wire connecor dissconnected

Car: 87 IROC
Engine: LB9 for the moment
Transmission: T5
I beleive 6 degrees btdc is the factory recommendation... I run mine at 7 or 8...

If you want to find out the max you can run bump it up to 10* and drive it. If it does not try to detonate try bumping 2* more and drive it again. If it does detonate back it off 2* and drive it. You do not want it to to start to detonate because when it does the ECM backs the timing way off and gradually brings it back up, so you want to keep it from doing this for ultimate performance.
