Some more parts ?'s

Im just all messed up with what Im doing...yeah yeah call me dumb.....anyways,

I got the LT1 cam with the .201/.447 .208/.459 specs
Im using my stock heads.....which Im not going to be removing from the block. Im going to replace my springs with .500 max lift and also going to be putting 1.6 roller rockers....that will put the lift of the cam to .203/.477 .210/.480
WILL THIS WORK?

Do I have to buy self-aligning rockers? my old ones are not.

Your heads have the narrow pushrod slots so self aligning rockers are not needed.

You will probably need to elongate the pushrod slot and you may have to cut the guide bosses down to increase retainer to seal clearance when running 1.6 rockers. Check these things out before you run it.

so how come ive been reading that I need to use self-aligning rockers?

Also Ive read about people putting on 1.6 rockers with no problem or atleast they havent posted about there problems.

I can just do what Im wanting to do and be done with it? you said "probably"

The heads in the picture have the narrow slots which serves the purpose of aligning the pushrods. If you install self-aligning rockers you now have two methods of aligning the pushrods which can lead to binding. If you already have and want to run the self-aligning rockers in the picture you need to open up the pushrod slots in the head just like the late model heads have that came with self aligning rockers.

Heads vary from casting to casting, one will accept more lift without machine work than the next. My experience with 1.6 rockers has most often lead to the pushrod rubbing the head on the spring side. I would install and set the lash on one exhaust rocker, rotate the engine a full revolution and watch for pushrod to head interference. The only way to know for sure about retainer to seal contact is to MEASURE it. anything over .450 to .460 lift needs to be checked.

OK, so I dont have to have self-aligning rockers....the push rod slots keep the rod and rockers aligned cause there is no "play" area for the rod to move around. I can understand that.....

but what about using 1.6 rockers with my stock heads? will that be OK? I will have new springs that can handle the lift....or should I just ot even bother with 1.6's and go with 1.52's?

what are my rocker size anyways?

thanks
